Perfection

All My Tears by Julie Miller
Performed by Emmylou Harris

When I go don't cry for me
In my Father's arms I'll be
The wounds this world left on my soul
Will all be healed and I'll be whole

Sun and moon will be replaced
With the light of Jesus' face
And I will not be ashamed
For my Savior knows my name

It don't matter where you bury me
I'll be home and I'll be free
It don't matter where I lay
All my tears be washed away

Gold and silver blind the eye
Temporary riches lie
Come and eat from Heaven's store
Come and drink and thirst no more

So weep not for me my friend
When my time below does end
For my life belongs to Him
Who will raise the dead again

It don't matter where you bury me
I'll be home and I'll be free
It don't matter where I lay
All my tears be washed away

Homecoming

As Homecoming 2011 neared, my resolve to stay out of the sophomore float business started to waver and panic began to prevail, since the kids didn't have their first float meeting scheduled until two days before Homecoming. So Jay and I went shopping for materials and discussed ideas for the float and I felt a little better (cause it's all about me, right). Well, one of Jay's classmates took some initiative and called a meeting a day early and the float building began in earnest. Naturally, despite Jay's suggestions, they used NONE of my ideas :^/ Am I officially an old fogey? Anyway, I should have trusted the kiddos, because they built a respectable float and got 2nd Place! Seniors got 1st, of course. These are the best pics Mitch could get on his phone. I wish Jay could have talked them out of the apostrophe in Sophomores! At least they spelled it correctly.

Can't forget Andrew!

Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real

Hosted at Like Mother, Like Daughter! Pay Leila and her daughters a visit :^)

{Pretty}

These are my fall window boxes and they turned out very pretty... I would be able to enjoy them much more if I weren't constantly worried their weight would rip them off of their brackets taking the entire front of our house with them! :^/

{Happy}

There is not a girl alive that loves hamburgers more than Christine... are we related to Wimpy? No, just Grammy! Ha ha! ;^)

{Funny}

I surprised Christine with some new fuzzy flipflops and guess who also thinks they are super comfy?

{Real}

My homeschool cabinet... after lessons are done, we just kind of throw stuff in and slam the door. Neatness is not a priority at Holy Family Kindergarten.

7 Quick Takes Friday vol. 1

Hosted at Conversion Diary!

*1*
Francie- She is a little homeschool sponge. She does everything with Pete and I... in Math, she plays with the little manipulatives and helps us count our days during calendar. In Bible, she blurts out answers that even Pete doesn't know, she colors pictures, plays with shaving cream, cuts, glues, sings, cooks. The great thing is that she does it all of her own free will with no pressure from me- I will remember this as a very precious time.

*2*
Pete- He is so excited about going to the Pumpkin Patch on the 17th... we've marked it on our Math calendar and he faithfully counts down the days. He tells Francie daily about the maze and painting pumpkins and the train and the horsies while she listens enraptured. This is another precious time, because Mitch takes a half day off to come with us.

*3*
Christine- She is loving her last year of "lower" elementary school. She chatters on about DARE, science class experiments, Accelerated Reading rivalries, Challenge Lab, and so many more 5th grade goings-on. While this is her 7th (!) year at this school and she is ready to move on, it will be sad (for her AND I) to leave the familiarity and comfort of the school of her little-kid-hood for the madness of middle school.

*4*
Andrew- He is recovering from a severe cold and today was his first day back at school. Poor kid, he is skinny and pale on the best of days, but when he gets sick, those gray eyes just become huge in his drawn little face and he feels like he would break if I squeezed him a bit too hard. So he had a rough day, especially with cross country practice after school and a good-sized stack of make-up work due tomorrow.

*5*
Jay- He is sophomore class president this year which is providing me with plenty of opportunities to let go and allow him to be more independent. For example, he is responsible for the sophomore float for the homecoming parade next Thursday. It is taking HUGE amounts of effort for me to keep my mouth shut and my opinions to myself, especially when he informed me that the FIRST meeting for float building is going to be on the TUESDAY BEFORE THE PARADE! If the class of 2014 has a lousy float, then the blame is on him. That could jeopardize his re-election efforts which makes me crazy! But I suppose I can't hover over him forever.

*6*
Kerri- I love Fall and we are finally getting some relief from the relentless, oppressive heat that began in MAY. It will still be 92 degrees tomorrow, but the mornings are chilly, I can comfortably work in the flower beds up until about noon, and the babies can actually go out to play during the day. I have that annual urge to buy pumpkins, but the drought has made them so expensive! It's hard to justify spending large sums of money on a decoration that will rot in a few weeks. I will have to content myself with making pumpkin desserts, I guess.

*7*
Mitch- I don't know what is holding this guy together! In the past few months he has given up tobacco and beer, battled insomnia, and continues to toil away at a hugely stressful and demanding job. Maybe wifely prayers? Three years ago this week, he had his bad accident, and I still believe his guardian angel supported him during the fall and greatly lessened the impact of his HEAD with the GROUND, thus sparing his life. Hopefully, I will make it to Heaven and actually KNOW what happened that day :^)

Sink Picture

Joining a Linky Party at Like Mother Like Daughter- the best blog for we moms/homemakers who need encouragement daily. This is my kitchen sink and I am sharing it with you. The canister (from Wal Mart) holds coffee, the soap dish and towel ring are antique repros, the birds are from Pier 1, the sink is cast iron Kohler (so glad we didn't go with fireclay-it would've been dust by now), dish soap is in an oil dispenser from BB&B (has proven indestructible!), tiny vases came from a garage sale for 50c each, milk bottles are freebies from my SIL, prayer cards are from Our Lady of the Angels Monastery, and the Jesus candle is from the grocery store!

And we worry about the birds?

Our tiny sister of most precious beauty is a blackberry thief! I found a trail of green berries that she had sampled until she'd found a ripe one and nibbled it up. We've got to watch this girl!

Snake!

Pete with a little hognosed snake that Daddy brought home from work.

Awesome Boys

The boys cooked supper for us last night as a project for the Columbian Squires club they are in and they did a great job! They made skillet lasagna, broccoli, garlic bread, and brownies with ice cream for dessert. I think they learned a lot and have an appreciation now for what it takes to get supper on the table each night. Yay boys!

Our Dog is a Doofus

I couldn't get footage of the actual event, but our dog, Trixie, has been trying to catch a bee for the past few days... above is a still of this. Then, doofus that I am, I realized I could actually take video with my camera and I managed to get the aftermath of Trixie being stung in the mouth. And you can hear the concerned dog-owner (me) in the background goading her on to snap at the bees again. Don't turn me in to the Humane Society... I knew she wouldn't ;^)

Today's garage sale finds

Two antique-style silver frames for the master bathroom, an angel holy water font for Chrissy's room, four more house pics for my collection in the stairwell, and lots of old books from the book sale for the living room. I thought the font was a little gaudy, but it looks pretty good!

My Hero

I think we all knew who would be tending to my bees, something he really didn't care to do. That is love.

What, me worry?

This is like the plane Mitch flew on to West Texas. Worse than I thought! :^(
